Penguin Counted Cross Stitch Free Pattern

Here's a little penguin, hanging out on a patch of ice, for you to enjoy stitching. It's a quick to stitch project because there are limited colors and fairly large areas of each color, making it quicker to stitch up.

I had the idea of trying to come up with a counted cross stitch design that had a penguin in it so I started drawing freehand in my chart-making program and then kept editing and changing it until I was fairly satisfied with the result, enough to leave it alone at this stage and put it on my blog for you to see and use. This is the result; I hope you will enjoy it:

Use your own choices for the colors of floss that you want to use to stitch the design. I didn't assign DMC or other brands of floss colors to this chart but the colors are so basic that you can just use whatever colors you have on hand. You could easily substitute a different color for the scarf and hat, if you wanted to, and a different shade of blue for the ice or leave the bottom section all white to be snow, instead of ice, if you would like that look better. Have fun!

Floral Heart Free Cross Stitch Chart

I created this design from my own imagination. I started with a heart in the center, then made flowers around the heart until I was satisfied with the way it looked. I hope you will enjoy it.



Below the chart, there is a color key, with colors for several embroidery floss brands. Because these colors are quite basic, you can easily substitute different shades of the colors to use what you have on hand. As an example, in my stitched sample, I substituted a shade of red for the very dark dusty rose. You can easily change the colors to suit yourself.

Monarch Butterfly - Free Chart for Cross-Stitch - Adaptable for Knitting or Crocheting

My charted design is suitable for adapting to intarsia knitting, cross-stitch on a crocheted background, as well as for working in traditional cross-stitch on aida cloth. I originally came up with the monarch butterfly portion in 1997 as part of one of my other designs. I decided to use this butterfly again in this new way, with a framing of lines that I made up randomly as I went along, wherever my imagination took me, so the final look would be unique.

Rooster - Small Free Chart

Doesn't this rooster look like he might be proud of his colors? The example on the left above shows the colors as given on the chart but you might have fun adding additional colors, as shown in the example on the right.

The following chart shows a color key for three different embroidery floss brands for cross-stitch. These colors are only a suggestion and you could easily substitute other shades of the colors or alternate colors of your choice.


On the chart, I have indicated in color any areas that are a three-quarter stitch, with the symbol shown in color for that three-quarter stitch. If desired, you could define the edges of the rooster shape with an outline, using the back stitch.
